Keller Era at Nebraska officially a complete disaster, Athletic Director Pederson fired

Now comes word over the wire that Nebraska's Athletic Director has been fired, with Nebraska chancellor citing "disappointment in the progress in the football team."

Here are Keller's stats in comparison with Carpenter's

Keller has been pretty mediocre for all the hype, boasting a pass efficiency that is ranked #51 among quarterbacks, just ahead of U of A's Willie Tuitama. Ask U of A fans, and they'll tell you those kind of stats don't get the job done. Carpenter has the 12th best efficiency, just ahead of Hawaii's Colt Brennan. This all isn't on Keller either though; if Nebraska had anything resembling a division I defense they would probably still be in the top 25.

Former ASU QB Watch

Derek Shaw: Suspended indefinitely by Fresno City College. I guess you can't really start over until you actually start.

Max Hall: 26 of 39 for 288 yards, two touchdowns, one lost fumble and no interceptions while beating U of A.

Sam Keller: 14 of 25 for 193 yards, one touchdown and one ugly interception returned for a touchdown. Nebraska was dominating on Saturday, with Keller being the team's only question mark.

Apparently, Mark Schlabach loves former ASU Quarterbacks

Today's lead story in the college football section of ESPN.com included a "What's Hot and What's Not" article by NCAA pigskin columnist Mark Schlabach. And apparently, while Arizona State will be involved in one of his "grudge matches to look forward to," he also seems to be infatuated with recent quarterbacks that have transferred from ASU elsewhere, and takes a bit of a shot at current starter Rudy Carpenter.

What's Hot: Grudge matches. Several coaches will meet their former teams in much-anticipated contests this season. LSU vs. Nick Saban's Alabama. Boston College vs. Tom O'Brien's NC State. Rice vs. Todd Graham's Tulsa. Miami vs. Butch Davis' North Carolina. Oregon State vs. Dennis Erickson's Arizona State.

What's Hot: Transfer quarterbacks. Several teams have transfer players in the mix at quarterback: Nebraska's Sam Keller (from Arizona State), Cincinnati's Ben Mauk (Wake Forest), Baylor's Michael Machen (Kent State), BYU's Max Hall (Arizona State), Maryland's Josh Portis (Florida), Houston's Al Pena (Oklahoma State) and Wisconsin's Allan Evridge (Kansas State).

What's Not: Struggling quarterbacks. These quarterbacks are hoping to turn around their careers after largely struggling in 2006: Virginia Tech's Sean Glennon, Miami's Kyle Wright, Florida State's Drew Weatherford and Xavier Lee, Arizona State's Rudy Carpenter, Oregon's Dennis Dixon, Ole Miss' Brent Schaeffer, Auburn's Brandon Cox, Iowa State's Bret Meyer, and South Carolina's Blake Mitchell.

Ryan Torain and Josh Barrett as NFL Prospects, Sam Keller listed as well

It looks as if Ryan Torain and Josh Barrett could have bright NFL careers ahead of them once this season is over. That's only if you believe what Scott Wright over at NFLDraftCountdown.com has to say in his 2008 draft prospect listings. Torain and Barrett are listed as the #47 and #48 draft prospects for the 2008 NFL draft, with Torain being the #2 rated running back and Barrett the #4 rated safety. Taking a look at the quarterback prospect list, Nebraska and former Sun Devil quarterback Sam Keller is rated #6 at his position. Keller was named Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year, but has found himself in another quarterback contoversy., even though it looks like he will win AND keep the starting position. The prospect list is a rough draft since the 2008 NFL draft is 263 days away, but fun to look at regardless.
