ASU starting RB Keegan Herring was seen at tonight's practice wearing a sling on his right arm and did not participate in the Sun Devils' nighttime practice on Wednesday.
However, apparently there is little concern from Herring or the Devils, as I've been told that Keegan will return to the practice field "in the next couple of days" and that the injury is just a aggravation of a preexisting condition.
With Herring down, Dimitri Nance and Shaun DeWitty split the snaps at RB with the first team. Nance, of course, is seen as the co-#1 with Herring. DeWitty, regarded as a project who was the team's best pass blocking running back, has worked hard during the offseason to become a better up and down runner and looks to get more reps.
However, I'm trying to actively remember when Herring injured the right arm, and that fact is escaping me. I'll try to do some investigating and will report back anything I learn.
By the way, much has been talked about the 10 pounds that Herring has added to become a more physical, between the tackles runner. You don't have to look closely that the semi-diminutive running back has bulked up a little, but I'll believe him running over left or right tackle when i see it.
On a side note, true freshman and Chandler-Hamilton standout Gerrell Robinson ran with the twos tonight and saw plenty of action in his direction. Brandon Smith, who burst onto the scene at the end of 2006 but saw his action diminish last season, also came through with a couple big plays.
